Helping a Norfolk Farm Make Better Use of Its Roof Space
Agricultural buildings can offer an ideal opportunity for solar PV, with large areas of otherwise unused roof space that can be turned into a valuable source of renewable electricity.

For this agricultural installation near Great Snoring, Norfolk, we designed a substantial 65.88 kWp solar PV system, making use of the roofs of two existing farm buildings.
The system comprises 108 JA Solar 610W panels, paired with two 30kW Solis three-phase inverters. It has been designed to generate an estimated 66,634 kWh of renewable electricity each year.
Why Solar Makes Sense for Farms
For farmers and agricultural businesses, solar can be a particularly worthwhile long-term investment. Large barns and agricultural buildings often provide excellent space for panels without taking productive land out of use.
Generating electricity on site can help reduce exposure to changing energy prices, while solar produced during the day can be used to support farm operations such as machinery, ventilation, refrigeration, lighting and other electrical equipment. Where generation exceeds demand, there may also be the opportunity to export surplus electricity back to the grid.
For this project, the proposal estimates around £2,901 in electricity bill savings during the first year, with further value coming from exported electricity.
The environmental benefits are significant too, with the system projected to reduce CO₂ emissions by around 17 tonnes each year.
